So I guess I haven't updated in a while, things have been crazy, we've had a rough winter. But from all bad things, good things always follow.
Last month our pregnant mare Journey gave birth to a gorgeous filly, Miley. She had a rough delivery and had an even rougher time passing the after birth. Miley was welcomed to the world a month or so early and has some severe complications. I drove up to PA the day after she was born and she died in my arms two hours after I got there. After being so excited to meet this little angel we lost her. The word heart break doesn't really cut it. Kim and I cried holding her little body. We let Journey say good bye to her, she nickered softly to her sweet baby after she crossed the rainbow bridge. We picked a peaceful to place to bury Miley and all said good bye. I was shocked that god took this new life away from us so soon. Journey had already dealt with so much in her life and to lose this baby was a low blow. She stood in the back of her stall with the look of defeat in her eyes. Who could blame her...
After a day or two many people suggested looking into a nurse mare foal. If you have a strong stomach google it and read about this disgusting industry. At first I was skeptical, we had all had our hearts broken already, why risk it again? Well we found a great rescue, Last Chance Corral, with the help of a Facebook friend. After speaking with the rescue we matched Journey up with a 5 day old foal. We raised the funds to transport him from Ohio to PA and a few days later he was trotting off the trailer to meet his new momma. When Journey laid eyes on him she whinnied with delight. This started a new relationship for mother and her adopted son. Over a week later they are inseparable, Journeys milk came back in and Myles is nursing now. As we watched them last night munching on hay I could not help but think about the angel we lost. Out of every tragedy must come a victory. Myles is truly a victory for us, Journey lost her baby and Myles lost his mommy and Project Sage brought them together. Gotta love happy endings.

After many suggestions and speaking with Journeys vet it has been decided to match her up with a nurse mare foal that needs a mom, we found a 12 day old colt in Ohio that we would like to match Journey up with! We need to raise $650 for shipping and $150 for his fee! All donations in memory of our sweet baby Miley that we lost over the weekend can be sent via PayPal to projectsagehorserescue@gmail.com. Please help us get this sweet baby foal home to Journey!

I have a very sad announcement and I've struggled with how to write this.
I went to PA yesterday to see Journey and Miley and to be with Kim. Journey had problems with her delivery and Miley had trouble standing and nursing at birth. Kim worked day and night to care for them and did a wonderful job as usual. Under the direction of three vets and two hospitals everything possible was being done. We thought they were out of the woods, things looked good, and I posted our beautiful babies pictures to share with the Project Sage supporters.
Last night Baby Miley was not thriving and then took a turn and could not hang on. She passed in my arms last night. Kim and I are devastated by this loss. Journey is hanging in there and will have sad days ahead of her. Please pray for her to be healthy and to understand that her baby is now safe.
This is a huge loss for the Project Sage family and we are all devastated, rest in peace Miley, thank you for holding on long enough for me to meet you, it was truly an honor.
